Iglesia de San Jose – San Juan, Puerto Rico

The building exhibits four centuries of architectural design and traditional masonry including the extraordinary Elizabethan Gothic vaults of rare Catalan architectural design.  The land on which the church was built was donated by Governor Don Juan Ponce de León, who was also the first to be buried there.”

Iglesia San Jose was closed in 2000 due to severe deterioration and structural damage.  In March 2021, the restoration was completed and the church re-opened.   The restoration uncovered original frescos, windows, doors, niches, and much more…  We invite you to visit to see this beautiful church, which is back in use for mass and open to visitors.
